Marc Levy and Gisèle Pelicot awarded the Légion d’Honneur in France
16/07/2025
We are delighted to announce that on Sunday, July 13, our authors Marc Levy and Gisèle Pelicot were both awarded France’s highest and most prestigious decoration, the Légion d’Honneur.
The Legion of Honour was created in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte to recognise outstanding civil and military achievements for the nation. Today, the Legion of Honour continues to be a way to distinguish everyday heroes, and now allows French nationals to propose a candidate directly through its ‘citizens’ initiative’.
Published in the Official Journal, twenty out of 589 distinguished personalities were decorated with the title, with Marc Levy and Gisèle Pelicot chosen alongside other well-known personalities such as Mona Ozouf, Pierre Mazeaud and Guillaume Faury.
Marc Levy was awarded the order of Knight for his work in the cultural sphere, and Gisèle Pelicot was also awarded the order of Knight in recognition of the advances she has made in the struggle to end violence against women.
