Under a Lightning Sky
Represented by Thérèse Coen
On the 19th of December 1940, under a bomber’s moon, Madeline Fairfax is caught out in a bombing raid whilst preparing a Christmas pudding. Trapped in her own kitchen when a bomb explodes, she gains consciousness in time to see someone familiar appear, giving her hope of rescue. But instead, Madeline is strangled to death.
Madeline’s younger sister, Penny, who works as a Fire Service Auxiliary and has just been dumped by her fiancé, joins widowed Detective Inspector Jamie Barton from New Scotland Yard to investigate the shocking murder, as well as the recent devastating robbery of the family jewellery shop in Hatton Garden.
They discover that all was not as it seemed in her sister’s marriage and are plunged into the underbelly of Soho’s nightclubs and wartime gangs, where they have to untangle a web of connections and mysteries, whilst also fighting a growing attraction between them.
Will Penny and the Detective find the link between Soho’s seasoned gangsters and the pregnant housewife, and uncover Madeline’s strangler? And will the discovery of the killer doom a possible romance between Penny and the Detective before it has even begun?
