An innocent idol is dead. It’s time to find out who killed him.
It was the show that shocked the world. Everyone knew that any boy debuting from The Idol was sure to become a sensation. The concept was simple: 100 boys fighting for 5 places in Korea’s next big boyband. That was until the unexpected happened. Mid-filming for season three, idol-in-training Yang Junwoo was murdered on the show. Rather than cancelling the whole thing completely, the producers came up with another idea – The Idol Special Edition: Who Killed Your Favourite Boy?
Written as a mockumentary exposé on the reality show gone wrong, The Idol throws us into the heart of K-Pop culture, the pressure placed on aspiring idols, and those who profit from it all: the entertainment companies, the media tycoons, and the family dynasty pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
This is not the story of a talented young idol whose hard work resulted in fame and fortune. It’s a story of exploitation, embezzlement and murder. As our reporter takes us through each episode and interviews those connected with the show, the truth is unveiled and it’s darker and more disturbing than anyone could have imagined. Because, ultimately, in the search for Junwoo’s killer, it’s clear that no one is all that innocent.
