Dancing with Mules

A new set of footsteps on a timeless path.

Dancing with Mules is an account of a journey through Portugal: without a watch, without a phone, just two mules, a compass and a map. Louis Hall is surrendering control and embracing the unknown on a quest to travel as closely as possible to the land.

For more than 7,000 years the mule has been one of humankind’s oldest companions. In contrast to a globalised modern psyche rooted in individualism, the mule embodies humility, innocence, constancy, and silence.

In an age that lacks mystery, stories need to be told and created. By adhering to the rhythms, traditions, and unwritten laws of a new culture, this book will be a defiant invitation to put down the digital illusion and wander into reality.

In this contrast between modernity and simplicity, and through the quiet presence of the mules, a deeper truth may emerge—one that speaks to what it means to be human today.
