Tidjane Thiam

TIDJANE THIAM is president of the opposition Democratic Party of the Ivory Coast, overwhelmingly re-elected (with 99% of the vote) after a politically motivated judicial attack attempted to prevent him from running for president and forced his temporary resignation.

Born in the Ivory Coast, Tidjane Thiam was for eleven years CEO of Fortune 500 companies – Prudential PLC for six years and Credit Suisse for five. In the 1990s, he spent six years in his native Ivory Coast in cabinet-level positions. Following the 1999 coup d’état, Thiam resumed a private sector career with dual Ivorian/French citizenship.

In 2019, Thiam became a member of the International Olympic Committee. He is a graduate of École polytechnique, École des Mines de Paris and INSEAD. Tidjane Thiam is a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.
