The Psychology of Money meets The Courage to be Disliked: practical trading advice uniquely packaged as a conversation between student and sensei.

Shinpei Ito feels like a loser. He’s worked the same job without a payrise or promotion for nearly twenty years. He can barely afford his house, his bills, or the fees for his children’s cram school. His wife Misaki hardly looks at him, and when she does, it’s with total disdain. No one believes it more than Ito: he’s a sorry excuse for a man.

One day after work he’s sitting on a bench, drinking beer from a can, when he comes across a notebook. What Ito doesn’t know is that this notebook belongs to Shigeru Fujimoto, the Stock Sensei, and its near-illegible contents reveal everything the 89-year-old knows about trading. The next day Ito gives the notebook back to Shigeru, who in return offers to teach Ito about stocks.

The Stock Sensei is hybrid fiction-nonfiction. In Shigeru’s own words, he says: “While it is a somewhat unique investment book that blends reality with fiction, the wisdom shared inside consists of my genuine words. Almost everything—my life story, daily routine, investment style, and stock trading history—is grounded in fact.”
