Everyone knows the story of the Snow Queen. A ruthless monster, secluded in her frozen palace, who drives ice splinters into the eyes and hearts of the innocent children she kidnaps.

But Gerda doesn’t believe this story. When a mysterious ghostly lynx, a known omen from the Snow Queen legend, appears across the frozen fjords during the lantern procession for winter solstice, she knows trouble is afoot. Sure enough, the lakes and fjords refuse to freeze over the following winter, leaving the community cut off from the rest of the country, its foods and its medicines.

When Unik becomes deathly ill after plummeting into freezing water and with no access to doctors, food and medicine, Gerda knows her only option is to ignore her disbelief in the legend and trek up the mountain to beg for the Snow Queen’s help. She must pass the Queen’s three tests before she makes it to the palace. Gerda is utterly determined to save her son, and will do whatever it takes – even if she freezes to death in the process…
