Marianna Spring

Marianna Spring is the BBC’s first Specialist Disinformation and Social Media Reporter. She created this new brief from scratch and has reached millions with impactful reports, securing exclusive after exclusive and transforming the audience’s understanding of misinformation at a crucial time.

Marianna read French & Russian at Pembroke College, Oxford. She was editor of the Cherwell and won The Ronnie Payne Prize in recognition of outstanding work in student journalism.  Her deep dive into the anatomy of how coronavirus disinformation spreads won a Press Gazette award and she won the Technology Gold Award in the MHP ‘Thirty to Watch Awards’.  Marianna has been nominated for 2021’s Royal Television Society, Young Talent Award. In addition to her BBC work she has also reported for Private Eye and the Guardian.
