Beatrice Ajaero founded Nneji, the first West African restaurant in Astoria, Queens, and Ibari, an international gift shop. Her first culinary outing was founding a bakery and several restaurants serving traditional West African foods in The Gambia, while also completing law school in New York. Her curiosity has led her to study foodways in Nigeria, the Geechee coast of South Carolina, and the Mississippi Delta. Her love of food and community and the role of entrepreneurship in making the world a better place led her to earn an MBA in Sustainability and an MSEd in General/Special Education (Birth thru Grade 2). Beatrice enjoys soccer, choral music and Moroccan mint tea.
